Tonight's sunset. The snow lingers from a storm in late December that dumped over 3 feet of snow on us, marooning some people in their homes out here for two weeks!

West Mitten Butte, Monument Valley.

We are staying at Gouldings, across the road from the entrance to Monument Valley. The accomodations are good, but the food is not. Best to bring your own! However, this is the place to stay if you want to get up early to take sunrise photos of the Valley and surrounding area.

Kayenta, AZ, on the way to Monument Valley.
Kayenta, or Tó Dinéeshzhee, is in the heart of the Dine (Navajo) Nation. The local grocery store has several different cuts of mutton, which makes a pretty good stew. Served up with some blue corn hominy and a roasted green chile, it's an authentic meal.

A few miles east of Kayenta is Church Rock, with Agathala peak in the background. These are all the cores of ancient volcanoes.
